Camper Abner McBryear Spends 10th Summer at Camp ASCCA!

Monday, February 14th, 2011

Anyone who has been to Camp ASCCA will tell you that you can’t come just once. For some, however, that’s an understatement. Camper Abner McBryear, now 43, attended his first camp session in 1998 and has been back every year since! Abner’s reason for coming to camp is simple–because he likes it! He began coming to the “big camp” in Jackson’s Gap, but in 2000 he started attending at the Dadeville’s campus. Abner has made many friends here, and is notorious for his phone calls to old cabin-mates, counselors, and staff. He has even been responsible for some matchmaking among the Camp ASCCA crew! Since he’s been a part of the Camp ASCCA family for such a long time, Abner knows pretty much everything there is to know about camp and keeps everyone in line. Hear him talk about his friends and why he loves camp so much on the video below!

Camp ASCCA Brings a Fully Accessible Water Splash to Camp

Tuesday, November 16th, 2010

Summer 2008 will see yet another attraction added to the Camp ASCCA program areas. A fully accessible water splash pad is being built and should be ready even for spring camps and retreats. The barrier free 2400 sq. ft. splash pad will no doubt be a popular attraction on those hot Alabama summer days. Visit campascca.org/journal for more information.

Camp Seale Harris’s Got Talent

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

If Simon, Paula, and Randy want to find America’s next big star they need to look no farther than Jackson’s Gap and Camp Seale Harris. Wednesday night the campers of Camp Seale Harris showed of their talent in a fun filled lip sync contest. Many big name stars were represented and it was truly a red carpet affair. A wide variety of music was performed from rap all the way to love ballads. One group chose to sing “Summer Lovin” from Grease while another jammed out to “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen. Some one hit wonders even showed up in the contest including Hanson’s “MMMbop” and even William Hung, the famous reject of American Idol. And of course, you can’t have a singing contest without The King, Elvis. Everyone in the audience clapped, danced, and even sang along with the performers.

Friendships Continue to Form at Camp ASCCA

Tuesday, October 12th, 2010

It is not uncommon for campers to come to Camp ASSCA and meet a lifelong friend that they will keep in touch with even after their time at camp is over. For one camper at the Dadeville campus this friend just happened to be her counselor. Camper Holly and her counselor Jessica met at camp last year but did not get to spend that much time together. Since that meeting they have been writing each other letters in anticipation of this year’s time at camp. This year Jessica is Holly’s counselor and Holly could not be more excited. She finally gets a chance to know her pen pal in person and not through a piece of paper. Jessica said it was not until Holly came to camp this summer that they realized they lived fairly close. The girls plan to still swap letters after camp is over but would like to hang out some too.
